Malaysia's Story

How it All Began

Malaysia May's story begins on May 25, 2013. It was the night that I graduated from college, it was also the night that I believe she was conceived. About eight or nine months earlier my husband and I decided that we were ready to start our family. We were ttc and I had done my research online about the best ways to conceive a child. After about three months we decided that we should give up trying and just let nature take its course. If it happened, it happened.

On July 3rd I decided to go to the doctors to have a pap smear and a pregnancy test. I was expecting the result of the pregnancy test to be negative as it always was. Very early the next morning my husband was pressuring me to go online and check the results of the test because he was very eager and excited about the idea of becoming a father. When I looked at the results I was stunned by what I saw. The result said positive. I had to check again because I thought that maybe I was reading it wrong. Nope, there it was in plain letters. We were going to have a baby. The moment that I told him could not have been more perfect. I walked into the bathroom, full of excitement and fear and told him, "You're going to be a daddy! We're going to have a baby!"

My Nightmare Come True

On February 9th I told my husband that I had not felt Malaysia move all day. I was surprised because she normally moved around a lot. I thought that maybe I was missing something so I went online and researched lack of fetal movement at 38 weeks. Everything that I read that day said that it was perfectly normal for fetal movement to slow down after 37 weeks because the baby was running out of room. After reading that it was normal I felt relieved. The next couple days I did not feel her move  but I thought nothing of it because of what I read on the internet. I remember speaking to my baby and telling her how much mommy missed her movements.

On February 11th I went in to labor around 7 pm. This was my first pregnancy so I had no idea what to expect. The contractions were more painful than I could have ever imagined. I was told that hospitals would not admit a woman in labor until she was at least 4 cm so I waited two hours and timed my contractions. At around 9pm I could not take the pain anymore and my contractions were 4 minutes apart so I decided it was time to go to the hospital. I jumped in the shower and told Ryan to get ready to leave for the hospital. Malaysia's diaper bag and my hospital bag were already packed a week earlier.
